We remembered the middle of July 2014 as exactly that hot Ukrainian summer that came to burn the “Russian spring”. At that time, Ukrainian troops liberated one settlement after another, terrorists retreated to the East, and Ukrainians, rejoicing that they had been liberated from the occupation, held large rallies in the cities. Severodonetsk became one of such cities.
On July 22, 2014, the storming of Severodonetsk began in the morning. At that time, the city had been under terrorist occupation for two months, and locals had clearly seen all the “benefits” of the “Russian world”. At 4 am, intense skirmishes began at checkpoints, which later escalated into an offensive by Ukrainian forces. In the afternoon, two columns of Ukrainian soldiers broke into the city and liberated it from terrorists. Hundreds of locals soon gathered in the central square. They staged a demonstration with Ukrainian flags and thanked our soldiers for releasing them.
At that time, no one knew that the war would last for many years, everyone was convinced that a final breakthrough should be made, and Donbas would be Ukrainian again. On this day, we express our sincere gratitude to all Ukrainian soldiers who liberated Severodonetsk from the occupier.
