Over the past week Ukrainians have been suffering from the massive consequences of fires across the whole country. Despite this, people keep setting the dry grass and even the entire fields on fire!
For 9 days, due to arson of dry grass, forests near the Chernobyl zone have been burning. In Lviv region arsonists destroyed the valley of tulips on the verge of extinction, the valley of daffodils in Transcarpathia. Dry grass arson in Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro regions. For 4 months of 2020, fires destroyed 18 thousand ha of ecosystems.
How the fire affects people’s health during coronavirus?
- Fine dust particles. Fine dust has been recognized in the EU as one of the most dangerous types of pollutants. Fine dust particles penetrate deeply into the lungs and cause diseases.
- A large number of different toxic substances are released. Studies have shown that during the burning of dry grass, more than 500 highly toxic organic compounds are formed near the site of the fire. And they all get in the air.
- Prolonged dispersion of emissions. When burning occurs near us (at a height of up to 2 meters), it doesn’t dissipate. Such a “pillow” is created from aerosol, fog, which we observe during combustion and toxic substances. Therefore, in the first place, children and people whose breathing zone is 1.5 meters or less suffer. Because there is the highest concentration of such substances.
What does this have to do with coronavirus?
Quick spread. The latest published articles link the spread of the virus to the content of PM particles, because the virus remains “active” on the surface of the PM particles for up to 5 days. And there is a hypothesis that this is what caused such a massive spread of coronavirus in China and northern Italy. Indeed, in the northern region of Italy, there has always been a very high concentration of SM particles.
Irritation of the lungs. Viral diseases of this type primarily affect the respiratory tract. There are facts on the connection between air pollution and the growth of infectious lung diseases.
When we inhale such “aerosols”, we immediately get irritation, thermal burn and chemically allergic effect.
Under normal conditions, bronchitis occurs due to this. And now this is the potential danger of coronavirus, which affects the lungs. If there are severely irritated lung tissues, then no artificial lung systems will save the person from the coronavirus.
And people who set fire don’t realize that they will be the first to suffer from their actions.
National Corps recalls that every act of arson is a crime, and the arsonist deserves punishment.
