Today, September 29, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv held a regular hearing on the case of separatist Serhiy Syvokho and People’s Deputy Maksym Buzhansky against veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war, representatives of the National Corps Serhiy Tamarin, Oleksandr Volkov and Yuriy Kaplya.
Commenting on today’s hearing, during which the prosecutor announced the indictment, the guys’ lawyer Eduard Verbinets noted that the actions of his clients do not constitute a crime, because there are no criminal penalties for critical remarks against politicians.
“According to the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, sharp criticism of politicians such as Syvokho and Buzhansky cannot be punished normally and legally,” he said. He also said that Syvokho and Buzhansky refused to participate in the hearings in the case they had opened on their statements.
In turn, the head of the Kyiv branch of the National Corps, Serhiy Tamarin, who is one of the defendants in the case, noted that the actions of such politicians as Syvokho contribute to the fact that the war in Ukraine will continue.
“Syvokho’s lack of compassion and understanding of what is really going on in Donbas pushes him to tolerate terrorists, his refusal to recognize Russian armed aggression. He does not feel the problems of families who lost their sons, daughters, parents in the war, he does not feel the problems of migrants who lost their homes. Therefore, he says that you can sit at the negotiating table with terrorists. It is because of the denial of war and aggression by pro-government structures that we get 7 years of war and losses,” he said.
