On June 25, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv overturned the State Bureau of Investigation’s decision to close criminal proceedings against People’s Deputy Oleksandr Ponomaryov, who attacked journalists in February 2018.
This was reported by one of the victims, Ivan Marusenko.
The journalist reminded that he, together with his colleague, another victim in this case, Mykhailo Kryvoruchkin, appealed to the Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova in order to draw her attention to the illegal decision of the State Bureau of Investigation investigator.
The journalists expected Iryna Venediktova to evaluate the work of the investigative bureaus, which unjustifiably closed the criminal case against the People’s Deputy.
However, the expectations were in vain, as the Prosecutor General not only failed to resolve the issue of revoking the obviously illegal decision of the State Bureau of Investigation investigators, she did not even consider the complaint, which is a direct violation of the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on legality of actions of law enforcement agencies, Marusenko emphasized.
Currently, according to the court’s decision, the case must be further investigated and sent to court to bring Ponomaryov to criminal responsibility for the crime.
It will be recalled that on February 7, 2018, on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Ponomaryov attacked correspondents Ivan Marusenko and Mykhailo Kryvoruchkin while they were performing their professional duties as journalists, and took away their phones. Then he tried to escape.
