113 years ago, on July 21, 1907, Oleh Olzhych was born, a prominent theorist and practitioner of Ukrainian nationalism, a bright right-wing intellectual, a talented poet and archaeologist.
From childhood, he was distinguished by extraordinary abilities and willpower, in his incomplete 23 years he defended his doctoral dissertation. His fiery poetry still ignites the fire of struggle in the hearts of thousands of Ukrainians.
With enormous intellectual potential, Oleh Olzhych could have made a brilliant scientific career abroad, but he consciously chose the difficult path of a fighter for national freedom. From the age of 22 he took an active part in the activities of the OUN, in 1937 he headed the cultural department of the legendary organization, and during the German-Soviet war he led the nationalist underground.
The struggle for the independence of the Motherland was a matter of his whole life. Oleh Olzhych was at the forefront of the second liberation struggle, leading the attempts at nation-building. In the struggle for Ukrainian statehood, he was destined to lay down his life.
For me, Oleh Olzhych is an example of a true aristocrat of spirit, a brave and sacrificial idealist who is ready for anything for the sake of the Motherland. Such giants make up the elite of every successful nation.
