Today, carriers from all over the region have gathered under the walls of Regional State Administration, demanding to open domestic transportation. People have been out of work for more than three months, waiting for a balanced compromise from local leaders that would allow them to earn at least something.
Protesters say they are tired of double standards. It is said that quarantine is not for everyone. At a time illegal transportation operates in the region. Owners of multi-seater cars, violating all the rules of quarantine, drive people. For such services they are not paying any taxes to local budgets. The authorities know about it, but for some reason don’t react in any way.
Also, due to the lack of communication, thousands of people cannot get to work.
Roman Safonov, the chief sanitary doctor of the region, Igor Tymoshenko and Serhiy Podolin, deputy heads of the regional state administrations, came to the protesters. They stated that they are interested in resolving this issue than anyone else, but at the same time they were not ready to take responsibility for it.
The govt that cannot solve a problem on their own and are afraid to take responsibility clearly cannot be effective for the region and their residents. If they are not ready to worry about the fate of the drivers, then who will be responsible for the failure of preparation for the pandemic in February? Who will really be responsible for the COVID-19 outbreak in the regional hospital? Who will be responsible for the lack of basic remedies? Who will be responsible for the lack of masks and antiseptics?
