The leader of the National Corps party Andriy Biletsky stated it in the interview for Politeka.
Most arson is a huge amount of money to loot. This is the main cause of fires in the Chernobyl zone and throughout Ukraine, he said.
The politician noted that since the beginning of the year, about 18,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed in Ukraine.
These are fantastic numbers. Our country will end up without single tree soon, he added.
According to him, the authorities who make “appeals that it is necessary to stop burning dry grass” are lying.
Every firefighter in the Chernobyl zone knows where these fires come from every spring. The scheme is very simple: the forest is cut down and taken to sawmills, and in the spring the area is set on fire to cover the felling, the leader of the National Corps explained.
He noted that this year, due to the dry autumn, winter and spring, the situation with arson in the Chernobyl zone has gone out of control, which has led to terrible consequences.
Commenting on the recent Verkhovna Rada’s decision to increase fines for burning dry vegetation, the leader of the National Corps expressed the belief that such a crime as deforestation should not only be punishable by a fine, but also by long-term imprisonment.
This should be a grave crime for the officials and everyone who covers them, and should be punished with no other punishment than the long term imprisonment, Biletsky emphasized.
