In light of the news that the Verkhovna Rada is planning to vote for the so-called “land reform” on Monday, March 30, the National Corps leader Andriy Biletsky calls attention to this issue on his personal blog.
First and foremost, can the Govt sell land or any other state asset under the global financial crisis?
No, they can’t. Because in this case, we sell our state assets for nothing. Over the past two weeks, all agricultural resources in the world have been cut by 20-30%. We’ll spend the money gained under such conditions in several months, and leave future generations without land and money, Biletsky says.
Secondly, who will be able to buy the Ukrainian land? Ukrainian farmer, for example?
No, he won’t. The farmer himself has no extra money. This could be solved with a govt’s loan, but according to amendments to the budget made by Prime Minister Schmygal the govt were saving 4 billion UAH on credit programs. So either the international speculator or the Ukrainian oligarch will be able to buy the Ukrainian land, the leader of the National Corps states.
Thirdly, they say there is a limitation on land purchases – one hundred acres per person. Is that true?
This will not be a problem for the oligarchs, who are speculating on global crisis and quarantine restrictions. They will find the buttons to push. For example, if they need 100,000 hectares of land, they will find thousand figureheads and which of them buy 100 hectares. This limitation won’t stop them, he adds.
And fourthly, why do the “servants of the people” so hasten to sell Ukrainian land?
They don’t even hide that they are doing it solely for the sake of $8 billion from IMF. However, Ukraine has $17 billion of debt on external obligations to pay this year. The expected tranche in exchange for the Ukrainian land is not even half of our debt. That is how Ukraine loses what cannot be restored, he points out.
Biletsky says that Zelensky’s plan can have catastrophic consequences the Ukrainian state.
But we will fight for sure. Ukrainians cannot leave this. If we let them to sell Ukrainian land for nothing, we will deprive our children of the chance to survive as a modern independent country, Andriy Biletsky says.
