Today, June 3, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommends that the Parliament support Oleksandr Tkachenko, People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People, for the post of Minister of Culture and Information Policy. The decision to approve Tkachenko as Minister of Culture will be made by people’s deputies tomorrow. This appointment is likely to bring a number of negative changes to Ukrainian culture. Such conclusions can be drawn from Tkachenko’s statements on language and culture, as well as from his pre-political activities.
Oleksandr Takachenko is a recognized person in the Ukrainian media industry. He is a former general director of the channel “1+1” of Igor Kolomoysky, and the ex-assistant of the general director of the Russian channel “REN-TV”.
It is obvious that Oleksandr Tkachenko, like many other people from Zelensky’s team, is not the defender of the Ukrainian identity. Tkachenko is not a cultural manager or a creator of culture, he knows only how to entertain the public. And Ukrainian culture in its current state cannot afford this, because it risks losing many years of progress.
